Another thing blowing my mind is the complete lack of screen brightness support. World oot on a few Linux distros I found. My keyboard has the keys, let me dim my damn main screen with those instead of the finicky buttons on the screen

Time to install Linux. I’m busy setting up family with Mint this holiday season to keep their rarely used devices alive.

After testing a bunch I am now using HERE WeGo maps a lot. Less detailed on local shops and restaurants but has some reviews, opening hours etc Has great route planning including for bike and public transport.
More free would be CoMaps but that’s really mostly grey’s mapping and turn-by-turn and very little info on shops apart from them existing.

I’m using FreeTube on desktop. World pretty well. If you lots an update you might have issues before getting the latest version

Gizmodo still exists 😲

Interestingly it loads today. I have AdAway on my phone and PiHole in my home network

Archive Link or alternative source? This crappy site refuses to load due to my AdBlock

There’s this one Nazi CEO that I hope we can agree either has no soul or at least one that we could do without. Yet we’re not killing him.
Killing people is wrong and while there may be factors that make it seem more warranted, nothing will ever make it right.

I think there’s a huge difference between fighting bullying or hate speech against minorities. Another thing is making fun of very specific and very public people.

This comment made me double check. They’re from San Francisco: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Framework_Computer
I’d prefer to buy taiwanese tbh. 😉

Now, can we have a cool European company doing similar stuff? At the rate it’s going I can’t decide whether I shouldn’t buy American because I don’t want to support a fascist country or because I’m afraid the country might crumble so badly that I can’t count on getting service for my device.

Seems like “drain the swamp” turned into “put the swamp monster in charge, give it steroids and flood the forest”

I bought an MX3 on a sale when leaving one job that wanted the mouse back and coming to one that didn’t offer one (or maybe I simply wasn’t patient enough?). The next job had an MX2S from a previous employee in the box with factory sealed cheapo mice. Easy choice to go for the used MX. Now I have two! But sometimes I get confused when they’re accidentally in the same place 😅 also love the three channels for pairing to different devices. Even comes in handy on the iPad once in a while.

The Logitech MX Master is the best productivity mouse ever. Apple apparently has no desire to compete with it.

Can’t we ever have software that just keeps working? Password managers are like the new RSS readers.

Thanks, this was helpful! Sounds like I’ll pass on Bluesky!

I’d rather have a smaller but somewhat predictable group of peers I grow to somewhat respect and trust than being confronted by thousands of random strangers that are there for mere “engagemen” but not for helping each other out or saying nice things.

I’m starting to get the data hoarding crowd more and more. We have been taught this dream of “the internet never forgets” but people missed to mention that it’s on the average Janes and Joes to make sure that is the case. Corporations want the internet to forget because it’s better for business.

Prices for parts and the actual service being carried out are often more than half the price of a new device so even people that would want to repair end up not doing so. The Fairphone is seriously improving that equation!
Installed Mint on two aging family laptops. One is smoothly running 00s era games already and i barely needed to help the family member with that.
