Technology@lemmy.world•Utah first state to hold websites liable for users who mask their location with VPNs — law goes into effect, designed to prevent bypassing age checksEnglish
9·1 month agoYeah, I was wondering how on earth this would work. If my organization doesn’t operate or host in Utah and they file suit against me why wouldn’t I tell them to pound sand?

Have detailed descriptions for others how to retrieve your data in case something happens.
Lots of great advice here but this stands out as a really good bit that a lot of people (including myself) need to consider.
Weekend proooojeeeeeect! 🎵
I was really enjoying wallabag for a while, but after an update (or something?) the container no longer connects to the db and I haven’t been smart enough to figure out why yet.
BUT when it works it’s got a nice interface and the Firefox extension clips articles quickly. Biggest downside I’ve run into is the iOS app can’t make highlights or annotations, and it sometimes randomly reloads an article while reading and ‘forgets’ its place.

31·9 months agoManual ordering of images in albums is an absolute must before I adopt any image management system. It’s wierd to me that seemingly none of the FOSS systems support it (considering that most of us are datahoading control freaks).

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Linkwarden (v2.9.0) - open-source collaborative bookmark manager to collect, organize, and preserve webpages, articles, and documents (tons of new features!) 🚀English
0·1 year agoI just spun up Wallabag on my server the other day to replace Omnivore. Im going to take a look at this, but does anyone have experience or thoughts on how this compares? I’m not so deep into it yet that I couldn’t switch to Linkwarden if it’s better.
My main uses would be archiving articles and highlighting passages.

If your organization is too big to act with integrity then maybe it’s time to downsize a bit.

I’ve never used last.fm but I saw this video the other day that suggests a way to use it with listenbrainz to create your own algorithm to help ween off subscription services. I’ve been meaning to go back and take some notes but maybe it’s of use?
