Officials said they wanted to search the phone of Samuel Tunick, a Stop Cop City activist, for child abuse material. It was actually because he was suspected of “terrorist activities.”
Seems like an odd thing to lie about as alleged terrorist activities also give them the right to search the phone.
I suspect they assume saying “everyone is a pedo” distracts from the actual pedo’s in charge

Conservatives (and shitty people more generally) will take whatever position best serves them in the moment and will change that position as needed. Their only true axiom is “fuck you, got mine,” anything else is fungible.
But they’re allowed to do that. SCOTUS believes everyone at or near a border or within eyeshot of their agents is ripe for phone searching and whatever else they want to do because they don’t care.
SCOTUS also said that black people born in America weren’t citizens and that rounding people up into concentration camps based solely on their race was A-OK. SCOTUS has a long history of tyrannical bullshit rulings, so what’s your point?
Blatantly unconstitutional “rulings” don’t make DHS’s behavior legitimate; they only destroy the legitimacy of SCOTUS itself.
Oh I fully believe they would rule that the constitution only applies to men because women were property when it was written. It’s wrong but there’s no path to fix it without a lot of deaths so we can pass more needed amendments for privacy, civil rights, gun control, and politician ethics.
I think frustrated_phagocytosis is implying that they didn’t need this lie since they could already search his phone, which fits with the pattern of fascists lying out of habit than out of strategy.
No, they want to absolutely destroy this guy in every possible way they can. He opposed Cop City, and that makes it personal for the fascist pigs.
