As much as I wish I could agree that he pulled through…

First paragraph: great. If only the post ended here.

Second paragraph: I’m gonna… uhm… increase the coordination with the repressive state apparatus to Increase Safety™.

Third paragraph: Anyways, we as New Yorkers don’t really have to fear any retaliation from Iran, so no worries, you can go back to brunch after you express your dissent on social media.

And don’t get me wrong. It IS a genuine improvement over “Maduro is a dictator” approach to US foreign policy, so critical support is due.

I feel like the third paragraph is definitely directed at Iranians worried about getting hate crimed considering the US’ history with this sort of thing.

Oh shit, I actually missed that he said Iranian New Yorkers. I retract the point about the third paragraph then. The post is not bad actually.

This is the best you will get from an american politician, be glad he is not condemning Iran for defending itself!

I took the 2nd paragraph meaning as protecting infrastructure/public works like power, water, hospitals, etc. A call out for those worried that went through 9/11 kinda thing. I’ve lived in an area where those have been attacked and the disruption of one incident can lasts weeks from a single bullet. Emergency management officials and commissioner are the two key points and this is a city mayor, not state senator or federal leanings.

edit to add: also meant to include religious and anything that might be loosely related to Iran or culture from the area (bigots don’t tend to scrutinize connections), leaving it as “sensitive locations” is better than specifically spelling out where extra protection is being laid out to any bad actors wanting to instigate.

AFAIK, a lot of Iranian-Americans go by “Persian” because there was already such a stigma associated with the name Iran.

Just wanted to add some clarity on the term Persian. Persian is an ethnicity, the majority ethnicity in Iran. So one could be Iranian (citizenship) and Persian (ethnicity), or Australian (citizenship) and Persian (ethnicity).

I think a lot of people use it instead of Iranian. Technically it might be an ethnicity. But, for example, I can find restaurants that advertise having Afghani food but no restaurants with Pashtun or Tajik food, restaurants with Syrian food but not Arabic or Kurdish restaurants, etc. But, while most restaurants go by the name of the country, not the ethnic group, there are no Iranian restaurants, only Persian ones.

I love Zoharn. I just wish New York wasn’t as stuck up as it is. I tried to go to a bar in jeans and a tshirt and they rejected me. Why? My money is good enough. Their cocktails were only $19 so it’s not a fancy place.

I much prefer Seattle for the culture vibes. But I miss the 24/7 transit.

Is it peace for America and cruel dictatorship for Iran is the question I have. Last I heard they were murdering protestors against the cost of living and the currency going to 0.
