As they should. Its a war crime when russia does it, its a war crime (assisted by the US) when Ukraine does it

Sadly USA was not charged for war crimes for using it in the past.

To be charged with war crimes, you basically have to surrender a war. The USA never surrenders when they are losing (Vietnam, Afghanistan/Iraq) and weasels their way out every time. Almost like it helps to have an unfathomable amount of money and influence on world economy, so nobody dares to hold you accountable for your wrongdoings.

Also there’s the The Hague invasion act, as it is affectionately called.

They have also not been charged for their inhuman embargo against Cuba. As befitting of their status as the World’s dictators.

War crimes are meaningless when the biggest countries just ignore them.

I had to look up what they actually do - although I’ve known the term since I was a kid. Basically it’s like a pipe bomb full of smaller explosives that is supposed to explode mid-air releasing LOTS of other explosives across a big area indiscriminately destroying anything in the little blammo’s radius. The baby bomblets can be fragmenting to destroy flesh, incendiary to explode and burn shit up, they may be anti-tank/vehicle, or even pressure sensitive mines waiting to be disturbed by a passer by (just like land mines). Now I understand the controversy.

The bigger problem is that many of the small bombs don’t detonate. Russian cluster bombs have a dud rate of up to 40%, American ones about 2.5%. They lie on the surface and are therefore a danger to the civilian population, even in the future.

Yeah, hence lying there like land mines. Its Vietnam again.

the question is: is it worse to have russian savages rampaging and raping in your country longer or using that crap to drive them out sooner :/

98% of cluster bombs casualties known to handicap international are civilians and about a third of them are children.

I truly don’t know. To me, in war there are no wins, only losses. I believe everyone has the right to defend themselves against an aggressor. “The problem with living outside the law, is you no longer have its protection.”

No. As nations we’ve decided what weapons are inhumane and cannot be used. For instance they cannot use chlorine gas, no matter how effective that might be at clearing trenches

The US have not signed the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, while Canada and most (all?) other western states have (Russia has not, BTW).

The peculiar stance of the US on this matter should not surprise since there are lots of international treaties that the US have not signed or ratified, including some that one might expect any “decent” nation to uphold [my opinion, of course], such as bans on anti-personnel mines and torture, the Kyoto protocol and many, many others treaties.

Notably, the US are the only nation that has yet to ratify the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child… 'nough said.

Leave it to the U.S to use and export munitions banned by ~120 other countries because they’re practically a warcrime.

US and Canada are very very close allies, so I would guess this statement was made with some checking in with each other first. It’s good that someone who is also supporting Ukraine can chime in on the human rights issues.

Biden is stupid… His reasoning was “because Ukraine is running out of ammunition”… Does the us ran out of standard ammunition?

You don’t have to believe it, it’s true.

          https://www.businessinsider.com/us-munitions-stockpile-low-weaponry-sent-ukraine-russia-war-2022-8

Not only that, US and NATO allies don’t have the manufacturing capacity to replenish stockpiles as fast as they’re being used.
