Yep, you’re right. I’m watching my ISP upgrade their cable to docsis 4.0 which will allow for 2g down 1g up. Instead of the garbage 1g down 40mbps up I have now. That upload speed is chaffing.
But I’m looking for a new toy like this because my current router is only 1g.

There’s a reason it’s enabled by default. So, it automatically has permissions to learn off ~20 years of emails before a handful of people opt-out.
Assuming they even honor the opt-out flag at all. They have a history of conveniently ignoring those.

It sounds like you’re describing Home Assistant? HA has a ton of integrations into a lot of self-hosted services not just IoT devices.
Any cam with an rtsp stream is fine. Host frigate on your server point it to the cams you can get audio and video and object detection pretty easily. I also recommend taking an extra step and creating a firewall rule to block the cams’ inbound/outbound internet traffic.
Still sounds easier than getting my roborock on valetudo. I had to take the entire thing apart to get to the other side of the mobo to flash the thing. Felt like I needed 3 hands to ground one place while doing a bunch of other things just to get it to flash. My workspace was a mess of screws and tiny robot parts I only half remembered taking out.
In the end it worked and I’m very happy with it. Was sweating for a bit though. It was a $400 vacuum iirc.

I use Pingvin. You upload a file to it and it generates a link. Has expiration on the link.
You can allow anonymous uploads or not, give friends logins etc.
I have it locked down to just me with a login and I use it to let others download the files.
Did you create your own docker container, or did you use the official one?
I have the official one up and running, voice and video chat work out of the box.
Looks like most of their services are also foss. Says their cloud service is powered by nextcloud, and pad is powered by Etherpad, upload by Lufi, etc. So, OP could probably just self-host most of these really easily. Hardest one would probably be email. That’s a whole 'nother beast for most. Especially since most residential IPs are blacklisted. You almoat always need to cloud-host that.
My cloud-hosting knowledge is a bit dated, bit I bet there are webhosting places that do the email bit for you, you juat pay the monthly fee to use their auto-gen instance of mailcow or whatever.
I’ve had issues like this before too. Mine was with the api password. You have to enable api access in settings->authentication->allow api access
then reset the api password (sometimes takes a few saves to stick for some reason).
So long as their ads keep getting blocked my my pi-hole I won’t notice.

I have one where I put a door/window sensor on a window and anytime that window is opened it turns off the HVAC, then when closed, turns it back on.
I tried once to setup a notification to open the windows if the weather was nice, but I’d never gotten to work quite like I wanted, and so I turned it off.
Sorry, I was referring to the underlying tech and bands. The physics behind LEO doesn’t automatically grant it the ability to be faster than GEO. It’s faster because the sattelites are brand new not 10 years old.

Companies like Viasat with GEO sattelites have the advantage of one mololithic sattelite with massive coverage. They have a ton of little antennas on each sattelite that they can adjust as demand changes. Need more coverage in an area due to demand? They can task an antenna not doing anything over there.
Latency is a B though. Minimum 500ms each way. Which is minimum 1sec round trip just physics not actual. What’s interesting is the layperson (non online gamer) doesn’t notice much. It’s not abnormal for a rando website to take a few seconds to load on my wifi. Or for a netflix stream to take a few seconds before it starts buffering. The biggest problem a company like viasat has is old tech in the sky. They can’t handle the load of everyone watching netflix. So, they have to data cap everyone. It’ll be interesting to see if their new sattelites later this year fix that or if they keep the caps on.
The tech behind starlink is good. LEO satellites play a purpose. Upsides are they have less latency than GEO satellites. Speeds are the same though.
Downside is you have to deploy them evenly as a constellation or else you get service inturruption. Which means if you look at any population map 90% of your constellation is going to be underutilized, and the other 10% is going to be full.
The real target audience should be mobile broadband. Airplanes, ships, RVs, cars, phones, etc.
But what do you do in the meantime? Fill in the unutilized constillation with rural residential. You can’t compete with fiber tech, so you sue the govt for free money.
