Selfhosted@lemmy.world•People using Cloudflare, are you still happy with it? Would you consider any self-hosted alternative?English
5·1 month agoYeah, I’m still pretty happy with my set up. My workplace is locked down, apart from the regular web. So if I want to access my self-hosted Code Server or FreshRSS or Calibre Web instance I have to do it through standard port 443. I run everything through Cloud Flare tunnels so scrapers and bots aren’t constantly hammering my home broadband connection. (Edit: fixed a word.)
You might want a “lapdock”; basically a keyboard, monitor, and trackpad in a laptop form factor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapdock

Technology@lemmy.world•Mathematics disproves Matrix theory, says reality isn’t simulationEnglish
125·2 months agoIsn’t it a waste of time to disprove the “Matrix Theory” (a piece of metaphysical, navel-gazing, freshman dormitory claptrap with absolutely no bearing on the pursuit of scientific knowledge or technical innovation or philosophical insight) in the first place? I look forward to the next paper, proving that there also aren’t any fairies at the bottom of the garden.

Technology@lemmy.world•That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogusEnglish
331·3 months agoHere’s a more even-handed take from Wired: http://archive.today/uwx3J
They suppose that scamming/spamming is the main purpose behind the SIM farm, rather than deliberately crashing the cell network.
