Android Auto used to just work as an app on my phone. It was great for my bikes. Ram mount, USB 12v, sena, android auto. Everything worked great. Then Google, like they always do, turned it off. Fuck Google. I don’t need a head unit on my motorcycle when I already have a phone.

You aren’t wrong, but also it directly impacts the company reputation. Doing it as absolute crap as they did hurts them. Not the whole industry, because looks what’s happened since, the charging standards in USA went from CCS to nacs, all the manufacturers switched to using Tesla network which, checks notes is your direct competition.

Being honest here, I have a car with android auto and I hate having to plug it in for a variety of reasons.

1. I just want to get in and drive, the music should just play and all the stuff should just get out of the way.

2. I don’t want to charge my phone every time I drive my car, it’s not necessary and can be hard on the battery

3. This is doubly important for an EV, I don’t want to waste EV power charging a phone that doesn’t need charging

My opinion, Phone OS makers need to get their shit together around android auto / apple carplay. Too much nonsense gets in the way of all the actually important pieces. When you get in a car with only a radio, the music just starts playing when you get in. Which means, your experience is better with old tech. That’s just ridiculous.

I personally think a better idea is to just start equipping cars with cell modems that you add to your plan or something. There is no need to offload this work to your cellphone when the car has more physical space for that kind of thing anyway. I mean tesla’s just have a borderline gaming computer in them these days.

You don’t need one for every condo. Though that would be awesome. It’s not like you need to charge every day.

Where I live, this is changing already. I suspect it comes down to your lawmakers and how you vote more than landlords. Landlords will never do something unless it makes them easy money. Though, ev chargers can be profitable, so maybe they are just dumb.

Use cases increase if they are thin. Instead of limited to rooftops. For example, take a look at what Aptera is doing.

There are so many public charging options now, just go to your grocery store and charge while getting groceries. My workplace has a few as well.

If you don’t live where you aren’t using a block heater, you don’t get cold enough to worry about ev usage. But also, plugging an ev in over night is generally how you’ll charge it. Unless you live in an apartment complex that can’t do that. So you’re not “throwing electricity into the wind”
