I had this issue at work, I was able to fix it by using the windows media creation tool instead of just writing the iso to the drive. Not sure why that worked, but it has every time so far.

A thin client for a NAS? That’s a hard no for me. Take the GPU out if you don’t need it, put a more efficient PSU and it will sip power as long as you aren’t running 27 virtual machines on it. I guess it’s more space than a thin client, but I have no idea how you are getting multiple HDDs or SSDs in a tc. USB is trash at long term data storage, and having a bunch of external drives and cables isn’t superior to a slightly bigger box. Not to mention anything that’s actually sold as a thin client probably won’t run ZFS very well if at all. If it’s not ZFS and it’s not hardware raid what the hell is the point of having network storage? Save the TC for a docker host or host a VM on your NAS that it can connect to instead.

TrueNAS. More control for slightly more work up front. Hardware will be easier to maintain. Lots of gamer desktops that won’t run Win11 available that probably have enough SATA ports to get the job done.

Have you ever scanned a book? It’s an arduous process and I don’t think most people would go through all the hassle. The files will also never look as clean as an ebook that was made from scratch. There are plenty of other readers and book stores that aren’t at this level of greed, and most libraries have some way to borrow ebooks these days.

They most likely use a third party like mimecast or the built-in encryption in outlook. I also haven’t had an issue between PGP and GPG but I’m not a heavy user.

Even blenders have safeguards though, if the pitcher isn’t installed most won’t work. I don’t think it’s insane to require some sort of safety with LLMs.

darktable.org Darktable is like Adobe Lightroom but open source, and I honestly think it’s better at this point.

I dumped Google photos for self hosted immich and it’s been great. Not sure if it has the ability to connect to photo frames but if you already self host anything else it’s not too much work to setup.

That’s too bad. Because I don’t know anyone who’s excited to give YouTube any money at this point. I used to buy some movies from Google once in a while, but after they did the bait and switch with music and movies I don’t trust their media store anymore. It’s clearly not profitable enough for alphabet. How much longer are the assets I already paid for going to be available? When will YouTube decide those licenses aren’t worth continuing? I think consumer trust in Google is probably at an all time low.

Word on the street is that MS couldn’t harvest the data they wanted out of Skype, even after turning off the encryption. So they let the Skype team keep on going because of reasons, while silently replacing them with teams.

I want an arm laptop for work. I almost always use web apps or SSH or RDP. I don’t need or want a lot of power in my laptop, but fanless and big battery life sounds great.

AMD. Maybe Qualcomm in the near future. AMD Ryzen chips are pretty damn good.

I had MRSA once, it’s so easy to spread and there is zero doubt in my mind that it could be weaponized. Criminal investigations are necessary after TWO whistleblowers are offed. I’m not holding my breath though. Boeing is too entrenched in the MIP to be investigated in any real sense of the word.

I’ll second this, stupid good battery life but a fairly simple watch. Doesn’t do apps but it does health tracking and notifications and it’s pretty good at looking like a watch instead of a toy.
