A common idiom in Erlang applications is running many instances of a process and letting it crash when facing an unrecoverable error. After it crashes, it restarts, hence the meme.
Sad to hear! If you’re truly willing to move to Linux, you could run either in a VM on the other OS, and use Linux for personal stuff, leaving Windows for MS-only apps
