Just upgrade the day before yesterday from 23 to 25 with a lot of truechart apps the TrueNAS apps were an absolute breeze. Truecharts not so much. The biggest part of preparing is the backup as you won’t be able to access your kubernetes config after the update so get the deployment files as yaml and don’t forget that you might need more like ingress rules or kubernetes secrets (looking at you homarr)

That’s why I initially got them to reorganize my raid setup and have them as backups in case I need them. So I’m using lto4 which is 800gb per tape (current standard is lto9 16TB per tape) And it really depends on how cheap you can get the drive for me I got a tape drive for like 200€ and bought bunch of tapes ~50 for 6€ per tape if you can get a LTO5 drive for a similar price you would only need half the amount of tapes. So all in for me it was 500€ but you can definitely buy less tapes if you don’t need that many all at once. For your 30tb that would be 228€ in tapes.

Currently doing a full backup of 37TB to tape. Which I would normally do once per quarter but I got a smart error on one of my drive that I’ll have to replace but before shutting down and removing the drive I want to have a full backup I might even get warranty on the drive at least I got the last time this happened drive has lower then 200 days of runtime. We’ll see

Just finished backing up my 33TiB to LTO4 Tapes. That’s 8.8kg or 44 tapes. Still cheaper and longer shelf life then HDDs

My whole setup including 2 PIs and one fully speced out AM4 system with 100TB of drives a Intel Arc and 4x 32gb ecc ram uses between 280W - 420W I live in Germany and pay 25ct per KWh and my whole apartment uses 600w at any given time and approximately 15kwh per day 😭

So there were only 5 ppl. At the company out of 11 that were actually fully paid a normal wage the rest were doing their apprenticeship so only like 600 - 1000 € p.m. And that’s how the company made money. In Germany you have 6 months of probation when you start at a new workplace in these 6 months ether party can cancel the work contract without giving any reason after the 6 months are up the normal worker protection laws kick in and it’s basically impossible to get fired without being grossly negligent. Anyhow I got let go 2 weeks before that period was up they said (for me the first time hearing it) that they “weren’t satisfied with my performance” and that was that.

Dude in 2022 I was working at a company that had the same password on all PCs because when your on holiday the others could access the code they deployed over ftp and did live debugging and sometimes development by checking the IP and execute the “debug” code when the IP matched the static IP of the company. They kicked me out a few weeks before my probation time was up. Looking back best thing I got out of there and found a better place.
