I like to throw out a random y’all just to throw off scrapers like this. In my mind, they’ll either think I’m in the southern US or just get confused.

That’s the claim from like every AI company and wow do I hope that’s what happens. Maybe I’m just a Luddite with AI. I really hope I’m wrong since it’s here to stay.

Yeah that’s a big part of it…shifting off the stuff that we don’t think is important (and probably isn’t). My view is that it’s escalated to where I’m using my phone calculator for stuff I did in my head in high school (I was a cashier in HS so it was easy)…which is also not a big deal but getting a little bigger than the phone number thing. From there, what if I used it to leverage a new programming API as opposed to using the docs site. Probably not a big deal but bigger than the calculator thing to me. My point is that it’s all these little things that don’t individually matter but together add up to some big changes in the way we think. We are outsourcing our thinking which would be helpful if we used the free capacity for higher level thinking but I’m not sure if we will.

This is the next step towards Idiocracy. I use AI for things like Summarizing zoom meetings so I don’t need to take notes and I can’t imagine I’ll stop there in the future. It’s like how I forgot everyone’s telephone numbers once we got cell phones…we used to have to know numbers back then. AI is a big leap in that direction. I’m thinking the long term effects are all of us just getting dumber and shifting more and more “little unimportant “ things to AI until we end up in an Idiocracy scene. Sadly I will be there with everyone else.

Could be good as a firewall with PFSense or something. 2.5gb to the ISP and a 10gb trunk port. Would be an upgrade for me. All I would use is a drive in it though.

What kind of dick smack attacks the internet archive!!!

Probably going to be what happened to Toys R Us where the company currently has value but private equity will pull out cash and anything not bolted down and load up what remains with extreme amounts of debt before abandoning what remains. The skeleton of a company that remains will be viewed as unviable as it will have large amounts of debt and no cash once the vultures have stripped everything off.

Except that is what China already does. Cloud providers with regions in China have to utilize a local partner company which gives access to the whole tech stack. It’s a reason that AWS China regions were always so far behind in service offerings to the rest of the AWS regions.

That was incredibly interesting to read. I don’t know anything about lasers but am now heading down the rabbit hole.

That was my thought, someone watched Star Trek and wanted to give it a go. I am always in favor of pursuing Star Trek tech so I hope this makes improvements.

I appreciate the recommendation! I’ll check out FlexASIO and QJackCtl.

LOL after typing my last comment I checked the Reaper site and they have arm builds. I may just try it out on the rpi for the fun of it.

That is amazing. I would try it on my spare rpi4 but I doubt Reaper has an arm build.

I have the 2i2 and this is what I was hoping to hear. I’ve always had it hooked up to Windows and it drops off daily to where I need to reset the sample rate to get it working again. Apparently it happens on Windows relatively often so looking forward to that not happening on Linux. I also hear that Reaper works in Linux so those are the last of my concerns.

I haven’t had the chance to run an external audio interface through Linux so not sure how smooth the transitions work with multiple recording sources. According to Focusrite, Linux is supported so hopefully it won’t be too rough.

So I’ve got a year to get everything I need running on Fedora. My only concern is Linux audio configs as I never have to use audio running servers.

At some point, the association with Musk has to negatively impact the brand and I wonder if a portion of these headwinds are related to that. The demographic for Teslas isn’t going to be Texas conservatives so the people Musk is directly against are the same people he wants to buy the cars. I have to imagine that like myself, some people who would have probably purchased a Tesla historically would not do so now. I was thinking about going electric and getting a Tesla but won’t be associated with Musk. It’s a single sample of 1 so obviously anecdotal but I can’t be the only person.

It’s frustrating because instead of consequences, all they see are benefits. They got or are getting their paydays so it really worked out for the villains.

I am curious, how do musicians make money? I’m under the impression that income from streaming is so low on a per-play basis that you’re not making anything unless you’re a super famous band. I am not seeing as many smaller venue shows being advertised which is where I assumed most income would come from (playing live). So if it’s not from streaming and live playing, what is left? I am going to see if I can find some live shows this weekend since I read this post but it seems odd that despite living in a city, there aren’t a ton of shows going on.
Can you imagine the screams of, “COMMUNISM!!!” If Obama or Biden had done this. It’s all we would hear about for an entire election cycle. Fox “News” would play it nonstop.
