More factories for the factory god!

I installed through F-Droid as well, but I didn’t get any notices. 🤷🏽♂️

Add me to the list with this exact issue.
They are an Amazon company, so it makes sense they’d be using AWS.
A fun game to play right now is to try to hit any of your regularly visited sites and see which ones are down. 😂

I’m aware, but usually people use something large and heavy as their example of the thing to be thrown, because they wouldn’t be able to throw it far. The short or non-existent throw distance acts as a metaphor for the lack of trust. For example, I wouldn’t trust Google farther than I can throw one of their servers. Those clowns are absolutely not to be trusted.

I don’t know, man. Pixel phones are pretty light, so I bet you could throw one pretty far.

I’ve been using Jellyfin on both the Fire Stick and Sheild for over 2 years and haven’t encountered any issues with transcoding, subtitles, or anything else. You just launch the app and everything just works. And I’ve got a couple of very non technical remote users who have been using it flawlessly.

Before Cloud, obviously.

You made this site, you say? What an odd coincidence! Were you inspired by the site you say you “stumbled upon” here?
https://lemmy.world/post/33395761
Because it sure seems like the exact same site. 🤔😑🙄

You stumbled across this site? Wow, what an odd coincidence! It seems exactly like this other site that you said you made here:
https://lemmy.world/post/33395635
And I do mean exactly.
🤔 🤔 🤔 😒

I suspect it probably would. Though I haven’t looked too deeply into it myself, I’ve heard of browser extensions you can get to force 1080p from Netflix, so maybe that’s what they’re doing.

With Netflix in a browser, you can bring up your streaming stats in the browser window as you’re watching something by pressing Ctrl + Shift+ Alt + D. It’ll give you several bits of information as an overlay, including what resolution the video is playing at. Next time you stream from them, give it a shot and see if you get anything above 720p. I know I never have and if you search online, you’ll find others with the same experience. In fact, I think Netflix might actually have this on a FAQ page somewhere…
Found it! https://help.netflix.com/en/node/30081
Scroll down to the OS selection and you can see what resolutions are supported by which browsers on Linux. Turns out Opera will give you 1080p for some reason, but the rest are capped at 720p.

Many streaming service websites limit browser streaming to 720p.

If you get enough responses to this post, it could end up being an awesome list of awesome lists!

This looks really cool! I just have one question. Is it possible to just install this like normal software on a Linux machine or does it require Docker?

It’s Anker, not Ankler. Your link goes to a domain squatting page.

I wasn’t aware of that, so thanks for the additional context!

Might wanna take your own advice. For example, instead of making a drive by shit post, you could have done what another commenter did and actually explain why people are on board with this guy. That person’s comment had me reconsider my position. Your comment just makes you look like an ass.

I really don’t get how so many people here are so happy that a Nazi is using Linux and doesn’t like Google anymore. That’s not the kind of clown I’d want representing or being a spokesperson for my interests and it’s really making me second guess the people here.
Edit: @nasi_goreng@lemmy.zip 's comment has provided info I didn’t have, and recontextualizes the attitudes here I wasn’t understanding, so now I get why there’s support for this.
It’s people with attitudes such as yours that give Linux a bad name. Your response to someone who’s just told you that they’re used to 3 different Linux DEs is that they must be a beginner and should use a beginner distro is the height of arrogance. The person you responded to is clearly not a beginner, and that’s the response you have for them when they share their totally valid experience? Shameful.
