Technology@lemmy.world•Nvidia plans heavy cuts to GPU supply in early 2026English
2·1 month agoThey’ll still undercut, just as they are doing.
I just don’t think moaning about the companies makes any sense. If you imagine the most utopian scenario you think of, with communal ownership of all production, how do you think the commune is going to allocate GPUs? It’s going to stick a load in hyped AI products and gamers will be last in line, just like now.

Technology@lemmy.world•Nvidia plans heavy cuts to GPU supply in early 2026English
6·1 month agoIf this is about supply pressures, it’s not Nvidia acting as a cartel, is it?
AMD has, as far as I understand, been outcompeting Nvidia on value for a good while. If this is Nvidia just being anti-consumer, I’d expect that to continue

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•how do you explain selfhosting to the non-techies in your life?English
4·3 months agoThat sounds like a level of detail it is not necessarily useful to go into with most people. I never experienced anyone non-technical complaining about cloud products, so it would just be proselytising about what to me is a hobby/passion project.
(Not that I’m big into self hosting, but to the extent I am)

I’m interested in the same question but more broadly: currently everything gets automatically backed up to Google, or mindlessly shared to Google. I see that Immich supports backing up folders, but I’m worried about missing an app and not backing stuff up or something like that.
