  • Sometimes you see a headline like this and you just have to stop for a moment and reflect on how mindboggling it is that genocidality could become so popular in a society. The fact is of course that this is the character of every genocide in history: genocides only happen if most people in a society passively or actively accept them. But when oneself is so far removed from that cultural context that enables this most horrible of crimes to happen, it becomes difficult to even fathom how a society could end up in a situation where one could meet ten people in the dominant group and find that nine of them want the marginalized group — largely children no less! — reduced to bags of nondescript red mush. Even the tenth person is probably still incredibly racist and a tacit supporter of genocide, just not an active supporter of it.

It feels cliché to mention how Zionist settlers are themselves to a pretty large extent descended from the survivors of pogroms and one of the worst genocides in human history, because the apparent irony of that is just not what makes the genocidality of so-called “Jewish” “Israelis” so horrifying, revolting, and tragic. People are not their great-grandparents, and Zionists, although they use Jewish aesthetics, are still a product of the cultural climate of Anglo settlerism and German volkism more than they are a product of anything Jewish. The Zionist settlers are, in a word, “not Jews”.

No, this is a human matter, not an ethnoreligious one. It’s a matter of me expecting to be able to look a member of my own species in the eyes and see a soul capable of empathy; all human beings are after all cousins if you go back far enough, and I would gladly welcome anyone as my own family. So even if people’s actions hurt others, I like to believe that people are largely just misguided and could be set on a better path, that people simply mean well but don’t always know how to do well.

But Zionists, in the way they talk, in the way they act, in the lack of any brightness in their eyes, there is just… no humanity left. Whatever humanity the Zionist settlers had was “left at the door” like shoes and coats when they decided to become settlers, and they’ll put their shoes and coats back on when the wretched, moribund system they benefit from finally collapses on them, which will be soon, God willing. And perhaps then, and only then, to paraphrase my own favorite ex-Zionist, ĉiu vidos en sia proksimulo nur homon kaj fraton.everyone will see in their neighbor only a man and a brother.

  • During his inauguration speech, [Trump] referred to the U.S. as a growing nation expanding its territory.

    “Yo, Klaus, what is this?”

“It is the natural Order. My Beer requires enough Territory to support its Population.”

“Dude, make some room in there, I just got some Soft Parade for my friend in Michigan and I want it to be cold by tonight.”

    “That’s not going to happen.”

    “Excuse me??”

“German Beer is superior both in Taste and Culture. It must be allowed enough Territory to survive and to thrive, lest less civilized Beers, which are more energetic, take their Place. A Day will come when the Fridge is dominated by the Laws of Nature, and Nature favors those Beers which are of a more brutal Vim. It is only right that the strong and the pure should dominate, and not every Beer has a Right to exist.”

“Are we… still talking about beer?”

“Of course we are. What else would we be talking about? — Besides, your Pisswater has its Place, in the Back, where it belongs.”

“OK man, well um… I gotta go do some work.”

    “Auf Wiedersehen.”

  • The article itself seems to be saying that this “defense boost” was something Denmark was already planning on doing, and Trump’s remark really just coincidentally came just before they actually signed off on it. The Danish defense minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, called the timing an “irony of fate”.

The article describes the boost as encompassing the following:

    1. Two new inspection ships.
    2. Two new long-range drones.
    3. Two new dog sled teams.
    4. Increased staffing at Arctic Command.
    5. Upgrades to a civilian airport to be able to handle supersonic fighter jets.

It’s worth noting that the Arctic Command carries out a lot of tasks other than just defense per se, and as SoyViking pointed out, Danish military buildup in Greenland is largely due to anti-Russian paranoia rather than anything to do with Seppoland.

  • It makes my blood boil. I can practically feel the drool of capitalist ghouls salivating at the thought of forcing a third world war — they can barely conceal their glee about their own profits and the preservation of their dictatorship through words about a “deteriorating security situation” even though they brought that “deterioration” upon themselves.

And now, it seems, the capitalist ghouls will convince people that risks are more real than they are, by building bunkers, and mailing pamphlets, and putting aircraft carriers in our harbors, and tripling the number of American military bases in Norway, and doing military exercises in the middle of dense urban centers, et cetera et cetera et cetera. The people of Europe generally trust their governments still, so they would see all of these things happening around them and assume that it must be for “a good reason”, right? Because it would be an awful lot of effort to just be “theater”, right?

Thus when the people are trusting of their own government, they are easily scared; and when the naïve are terrified, they’re more willing to accept this sort of absolute nonsense, the idea of a “preemptive strike” in this case, which will surely trigger or bring us within inches of a third world war.

“For the sake of security” — Give me a break!

  • My friend, you’re on the fediverse and saying that a single website would be the best way to achieve this. I think that decentralization such as federation or peer-to-peer would be a much better way to achieve a pirate’s utopia, because the decentralized approach guarantees that even if one part falls, the whole will remain.

That aside, if I can talk about “What other features would make the ideal file sharing site?” — for a pirate video streaming site in particular, my number one feature would easily be community-contributed subtitles. In the list of subtitle tracks, each track would have two checkboxes, one for text and the other for TTS (this would be used for audio description and makeshift voice-over dubs). For rarer languages without reliable TTS, users would be encouraged to submit voice recordings, which might be anonymized with AI to sound like the TTS voice.

Subtitling would be done with a danmaku-esque system, so that people can choose to contribute just a few pieces here and there and wait for other contributors or continue later, rather than just one person needing to subtitle everything. Users might be able to rate subtitle tracks based on quality and completeness, too. A system of upvotes and downvotes on individual subtitles, as well as both manual and automated moderation, would prevent abuse.
