For my server I bought a domain on loopia.se and pay for no other features than the domain name. On the Loopia website I then changed the DNS nameserver to Cloudflare and use a script to update the IP of my network. Cloudflare has some package you can install on Linux to update the IP but I never tried it.

If you have around 100€ you can get a mini PC on eBay to start self-hosting all kinds of things. I have two at home with Proxmox installed and it’s very easy to use. Especially with the Community helper scripts to get containers installed and configured for a variety of self-hosted services.

A Lenovo Thinkcentre or HP EliteDesk Mini PC works perfectly as a home server. I use it to host game servers, Home Assistant, personal wiki, Jellyfin, Audiobookshelf, SearXNG, PiHole and more.

It’s horrible that Ukrainians and Russians are getting forced in to a war that neither wanted to participate in. I hate wars and I would have preferred to see everyone live in peace. But reality is not like that.

Putin is trying to take your homeland and you’re doing nothing to prevent it. You’re not even in your own country… I find it pretty rich that condemn Putin and his actions while also being okey with it happening as long as no one has to fight for Ukraine.

Staying on an old and unsecure OS sure is a solution, but it’s incredibly fucking stupid.

At least you could install Linux and use an old Windows version inside a VM instead of running a vulnerable system on bare metal. That way you can still use Windows when you need to.

Linux works fine on older machines and can give them new life.

I recently had to use a smart phone that is over 10 years old (Samsung Galaxy S5 mini) and believe it or not, YouTube and Facebook Messenger still worked. It was slow a hell but it still worked fine.

My experience with Arch and BTRFS has been nothing but great. If my system break I can just roll back a snapshot.

I avoid Debian, Ubuntu or other distros that hold back package versions because that’s where the problem starts in my opinion. I shouldn’t have to use workarounds to install the packages I want. Arch with the AUR just work so far.

But if you can’t run Windows 11 then you’re on your own once the support for 10 stops…

What’s the point of staying with Windows 10? You’re just pushing the problem further ahead in time. You might as well start leaning Linux now, instead of waiting til you have no other choice.

I think it’s weird how so many people suddenly became experts on AI as soon as OpenAI released ChatGPT.

I don’t like the current trend of companies putting half-assed AI in to everything. AI is the new buzzword to bring in hype. But that doesn’t mean I can not see the value it can potentially bring in the future once it’s more developed. The developments within the AI-field has only just begun.

My use of the word AI is very broad. I am not saying that ChatGPT could drive a car. But I 100% believe that we will have self-driving cars before I die of old age.

Innovators and visionaries is what drives us forward. If they listened all the nay-sayers we would get nowhere. I will keep being optimistic about the future developments of technology.
