Good point. I had forgotten about disabling network access. I think a majority of the games I paid for work off the idea that if you connect a few times or have a certain amount of plays times you can then play offline. Well the ones that check that is.

What data would be sent off having Google Play services installed? I get that you can disable certain permissions and can also use profiles.

Ideally I wouldn’t want to use profiles. I could use something like Shelter on a rooted device but that kind of slows down multitasking

I could see them having issues with the smaller user base or how a federated platform works with things like finding communities outside of your instance but those aren’t bugs.

I read some of their comments and it seems like this is a re-created account and they got into contact with the old moderators about it instead of going the /r/RedditRequest route. They did post on /r/RedditRequest about /r/LinuxQuestions.

At least so far it doesn’t sound like they are doing it maliciously or squatting on the subreddit. I feel like waiting until they had additional moderators or stating which moderator(s) gave them the go-ahead before making a pinned post along with mentioning that a lot of the community has attempted to migrate to Lemmy would have been a good idea.

They work just fine. You can either attempt to use the install script Lutris provides you and hope it gives you the option to supply your own files (this is primarily GOG games and source ports) or set up a new game from scratch by selecting the exe file of the installer and later changing it to the game.

You should check ProtonDB even if you aren’t using Proton to make sure there’s no additional fixes or edits that need to be applied.

From what I recall Doitsujin of DXVK seems to think it’s a ways away from getting fixed.

Are they inactive right now? I’m not sure if they went the way of re3 (a reverse engineered version of GTA 3 designed to fix bugs, port the game to several platforms, and expand modding capabilities) and were shut down under pressure from Rockstar.

Here is a Kotaku article titled Bootleggers Explain Why There’s So Much Video Game Piracy in China. It is from 2013 and I think there has been a size amount of legislation changes but it sounds like the grey market for video games was thriving thanks to console mods.

One thing I have had an issue with is torrent clients closing, by default for some reason, to the notification bar. If you are toggling on and off your VPN to avoid captchas or slow load times you should seriously consider turning it off.

I don’t think it’s completely flawless but it seems to be pretty commonly used.

It works fine. You’ll likely notice a slight decrease in performance and a lot of the time you’ll be using Windows versions of games instead of native Linux titles because that’s what’s available. Sometimes Lutris install scripts won’t play nice with pirated game installers so you might have to look at the script and see what tweaks it uses.

Couldn’t you just keep your games and use a Steam emulator?
