2020 for $4 billion.

I used to use it solely for sports news updates. Once Elon bought it, kept constantly getting politics news that I didn’t want. Kept adding blocked terms hoping to not see it anymore. Nope. Kept getting pushed right wing bullshit. Deleted and never looked back. It helps that people have actually moved to Bluesky. The biggest issue I have is with Reddit and Lemmy not having the sports communities here. Game threads for Orioles games had 0 comments. I’m not going to just sit there and post to myself.

I mean, machine learning and AI does have benefits especially in research in the medical field. The consumer AI products are just stupid though.

To be fair, it only happens on the Promotions tab for me. They don’t inject anything on my normal inbox (at least on PC).

I mean, I feel like that’s going to happen regardless if you’re using an Android phone. I don’t think using a different app for GPS navigation is going to change that. I’m not saying we shouldn’t push for more stuff to be opt in and allow people to have their privacy maintained, but in the market right now, the app you use for GPS isn’t changing who is tracking you.
They have one on the inside but not the outside. That’s why the mom couldn’t get into the vehicle or the firefighters and they had to take an axe to the window. How are you supposed to pop the hood to jump start your car if the battery is dead and you can’t get in the car because the battery is dead? It’s just a stupid design to not have a manual override.
Sure you’d think you wouldn’t need regulations that state that there should be a manual way to open your car door. Have we gotten that stupid? Why in god’s name would you not have that option? What happens if the battery dies and you can’t start the car? You can’t open the door to pop the hood to even jump it. With all the brilliant people that work at a company like Tesla and no one thought there should be a way to open the door from the outside if there’s no power?

I don’t have access to my music torrent site anymore due to the first one shutting down (W.CD) and then going idle on the other one for years. Don’t feel like re-downloading everything either since I lost all my music in a hard drive crash. Could probably recover it from my Cowon X7 but don’t know where the cable is for that anymore.

I find this to be an option with Movies/TV Shows but a struggle with Music. At least once my kids were older and listening to stuff. They were constantly asking for stuff to be downloaded, my mom and wife were asking for stuff, my brother, etc. Had a subsonic server set up and just got tired of actively managing it. Spotify isn’t great but it works and it saves a headache. I just wish there was better options because I don’t like the Spotify app. YouTube Music is even worse, especially since it subscribes to everything on YouTube too so all my subscriptions got jacked up.

As an American, all I can say is thank you Europe for continuing to have sensible legislation that forces these companies to have decent policies worldwide if only to comply with EU laws. I only use Windows on my company provided laptop but just because I don’t need to worry about it personally doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t care about how it affects others.

I’ve never really needed to have many tabs open so I don’t really understand that struggle. I might have it more with my new job in commercial lending where our loan origination system is a web based app so maybe I’ll need to have a lot more tabs open for that. If so, I could see myself switching to vertical tabs but I’ve just never had a need to have more than like 10 open at a time and that’s usually only when I’m shopping around and comparing products/reviews.

I never really got into vertical tabs at all. Although I never have that many tabs open that I really need that space efficiency. I can never understand how people have more than like 8 tabs open.

Yeah, they’re really struggling to get their reputation back after letting IE drag it down. I honestly never really used Edge until I started my new job last month. The system is locked to Chrome or Edge and I decided to give Edge a try since it would actually let me enable dark mode where Chrome is locked by system administrators for themes. It’s actually a good browser. I just never trusted it because it was a MS browser. But I prefer Firefox to all of them but that’s just a personal preference.
And not wanting to learn to do basic things on a computer made companies put everything on rails and then once everything was on rails, they could just take control away from you. I don’t know how many times working in an office people would be completely ignorant of how to use their computer and be completely fine with it. Like this is your career and your livelihood and the tool that you use daily to get the job done. Learn how to use it and not just the steps to “point and click at certain things” and when it doesn’t do exactly what you want you give up.
