The Kings mostly a figurehead just like King Charles. The last King of Thailand was so popular that he could significantly influence the people if he chose, the current King is largely seen as a useless playboy.

Thailand does have a lese majeste law which makes it illegal to insult the King. They are not the only country with such a law, ex. Germany has a similar law making it illegal to criticize the president (though it seems to be largely unused) and Denmark has a law preventing the ridicule of its Monarchs.

So it’s the Military that’s trying to oust an upstart civilian governmental party/movement. They seem to be using the lese majesty laws as an excuse to oust their rivals. I’m not sure just how effective it’ll be since the current King isn’t very well liked. Then again I’m sure they’re running their propaganda beside pictures of the late King who was beloved. Someone with closer ties to Thailand may be able to tell us how receptive people seem to be to this move.

When i run into those I’ve started just telling them I have a billing issue or that I need to purchase some additional product from them. The phone system will push you to a person really fast if they believe you’re buying something. Then the sales person can transfer you to the department you want to talk to rather than trying to navigate the maze of dead ends in some systems.

I don’t understand what kind of magic bullet people think a constructive discharge lawsuit is or what kind of powerful uno reverse card it would be. Winning a constructive discharge lawsuit is basically being legally fired instead of quiting…they’d probably get less from that lawsuit (not even counting the time and legal fees) than if they just accepted Apples package. What is a constructive discharge lawsuit supposed to do here?

If they are offering a relocation package, and it sounds like they are, then this likely doesn’t fall under constructive discharge. Also in CA a constructive discharge lawsuit often only makes you entitled to the same benefits as if you were fired (i.e. severance and unemployment). These guys aren’t being fired for cause so they still qualify for unemployment and the severance deal Apples offering is probably already worth more than many would get in a lawsuit. A lawsuits not gonna force Apple to move the office back.

I don’t know why everyone always jumps straight to “constructive discharge” and “this must be illegal”. Guys, we live in a legal hellscape, Apple may be being shitty but they aren’t doing anything illegal.

I knew a guy who worked in wallpaper, he insisted that sales would stay up after 2020 because this was the “new normal”…would not listen to anyone who asked him what would happen when the post-pandemic housing market slowed and the government stimulus checks dried up…he couldn’t even conceive of a market turn, this guy was teaching night classes to college students…

Most non-poaching clauses in non-competes specify that the person signing it can’t recruit employees from their old work, usually for X number of years. Microsoft almost certainly didn’t sign any non-competes and unless Sam Altman is the one making this offer there aren’t any non-compete violations happening.

They are company “Purchase” cards. They are often used for purchases for the office like supplies or other one off perks (i.e. food). In some companies they are separate from travel cards which can only be used for travel.

That there should be a global language not directly tied to a culture is one of the main arguments for an artificial launague being adopted as the global lingua franca. Not to say there isn’t issues with that either since the most popular constructed languages are heavily adapted from European languages (looking at you esperanto).
