Anti-AI is also not anti-tech. It’s anti-surfdom. This issue wouldn’t be nearly as politicised if people didn’t have to rent it from those massive companies.
*serfdom lol
Please leave it though, made me smile. Who isn’t sick of those tanned bastards waxing their boards and hanging 10?
I mean they’re not entirely wrong but I hate that they think it takes blame off themselves. Like they were forced to do Trumps bidding or sign military contracts under the most evil military of all time. Nobody forced them at all though, they were fucking bidding for the contracts and gave half assed reasoning for why they MUST cooperate. Absolute henchmen goofball behavior
So they seem to have the same deficiency as Trump. The one where they think they are so great that any problems are to do with someone else.
We need fewer of these types of people. A lot fewer.
It’s so refreshing to encounter someone correctly using the word “fewer”. The word seems to be dying off pretty rapidly in favor of “less”.
Why can’t it be both? We hate Trump and we hate you too.
In fact, part of the reason we’re so pissed at Trump is because he took your money and than gave you ridiculous subsidies and didn’t regulate your industry which may pose a catastrophic existential risk.
Now we’ve worked out that plain old billionaires (and high-ranking hundred-millionaires) collectively pose a catastrophic existential risk.

We aren’t anti-tech, though we are anti-trump. We are also anti-asshole tech bros stealing our money and forcing shitty AI down our throats and ruining our lands.
Being anti-techbro is actually extremely pro-tech. As they are primarily the ones ruining it.
I hate when people developing horrendous tech say people are anti tech when people are just anti their tech…
“wow you dont like me shootinh you with my death ray? This anti-tech sentiment is really getting out of hand.”
Apparently 38 of 44 measures restricting data centers passed because voters were thinking about Trump, not the enormous data centers in their towns. Amazing how an industry selling pattern recognition suddenly becomes so bad at recognizing one when it’s inconvenient.
an industry selling pattern recognition suddenly becomes so bad at recognizing one
I think they do recognize the pattern.
With trump, I genuinely don’t know if he understands that people don’t like him. With the big tech companies, I think they have a pretty good idea of how each individual person feels about these data centers.
Since the midterm elections have just passed, they don’t need to worry about how the average voter feels about them for another two years. However, they do need to convince their investors that everything is ok. Between the partial bubble pop in China, the crypto heist, Google’s stock drop, and now the republicans losing power, they’re spooked
After Altman did his interview where he said he should own all the RAM, I’m pretty sure he entirely lives in an information silo.
He said a few other let them eat cake -level out-of-touch statements that indicated he has no contact with the real world.
They probably have dashboards showing public opposition down to the ZIP code. The problem isn’t that they can’t read the data: it’s that admitting what it says might upset investors. Apparently the one dataset Big Tech refuses to put into production is its own unpopularity.
Do you only comment in witty quips?
Yes, it’s the schtick of this bot (or person outsourcing all of their comments to LLM).
Sell pattern recognition to those who have none
It’s funny the Democrats won on the promise to clamp down on big tech given their history. Next election cycle, I bet the Republicans will be running on regulating the fossil fuel industry.
I mean that pretty much does align with cultural change. Techno-optimism when it was popular was a liberal phenomenon more than a conservative one, hell it’s where a lot of the stereotypes about liberals come from (conservatives never update their image about anything)
Now barely anybody is a techno-optimist and the few that are, agree with the neofeudal shit that they started saying out loud. And even then I think techno-optimists make up a minority of right wingers.
It’s true. The left has nothing but tech-focused solutions, like an inclined plane powered by potential energy.
“This would keep [US] AI token prices high, giving China an opportunity to export cost-effective inference services, supported by abundant electricity supplies,” Ng said.
This sentence contains many layers, and all of them are somewhat wrong in multiple dimensions, in my opinion.
- AI token costs didn’t drop at all since all of this started, they rose significantly because of the increasingly larger models used. Barring an scientific breakthrough, the hardware side is already in the area of physics where further significant improvements are unlikely, as we all saw in the slowdown in performance gains over the last 15 years. And it is in the nature of GenAI that it is computational intensive - all this matrix multiplication is necessary, or else they would have already replaced it.
- The most important export China has made in the AI space are open weight models like DeepSeek and GLM 5.3, devaluing tokens coming from Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, and so on.
- the “abundant electricity supplies” that the US are missing are a direct result of the regulatory capture in the US, which emphasizes power generation using carbohydrates to funnel more money into specific companies instead of widespread solar and wind power adoption with battery storage. (The US has more than enough strategic reasons to strive towards being able to build their own solar and wind generation modules, which would actually create jobs and encourage adoption.)
I heard that tokens got cheaper, but the models now use more tokens to accomplish the same tasks.
Also, non-AI companies are widely halting tokenmaxxing, instead telling their work staff to use AI for the use-cases that work, and otherwise go back to human methods.
I also heard that engineers ordered to tokenmaxx (and given incentives to do so) would just prompt ridiculously difficult complex problems, and that would burn through and overrun company token budgets.
The metric is not the goal.
The delusions are voiced to try and calm investors, moreso than gaslight voters
recently there was a bunch of technologies they tried hard to pitch to the masses and they failed, why can’t they just believe that they suck and move on
Well, yees, it’s anti Trump. It’s again having tech in hands of people like Trump
The tech is fine but polluting the air to spy on us will have consequences you may not like.
Super not fine. It needs to be regulated into the ground. Medical research? Fine. Literally anything else? Get in line for your inference application.
That “medical research” as far as I can tell is hallucinating serious illnesses into diagnostic data so the insurance companies have even more reasons to deny care
There may be legitimate uses beyond that, but yet again this system built on greed that rewards genuinely psychopathic behavior is exactly the wrong sort of environment to foster this level of adoption
It is not fine.
It’s great for medical research.
It can be, but I’m not sure that will outweigh the harm it’s doing or will do.
An amazing achievement but like other tools, we don’t want it in the wrong hands.
