You know, nobody is forcing these people to do all of this. Nobody is holding them hostage and telling them to be the worst person that ever lived. At any point, they could just stop to do whatever they try to do.
But no, they decided this is the way our society and civilization has to be run. And we still stand by and watch in disgust.

At one point, a few racers are saying that they are moving at incredible speed and everything is “so hot”.
As any train, you own the speed, not the track! At one point, a racer might say that the current speed is too fast if a sharp curve is coming, but that he cannot stop putting coal in the engine because slowing down might cost him the race…

It is so bizarre to me that the idea of AI being something that will end the human race is now an integral part of these guy’s marketing strategies.
As a human myself, I wouldn’t wanna invest in something that’s meant to destroy humans but to each their own.
I heard an interview recently with Emile Torres about this. And he didn’t make this any less stupid, but he did a great job helping to explain the deranged pathologies of the people behind these.
When you have the power to make decisions at a global scale, your goals and fears are radically different from those of people who only have the ability to make choices that impact their household or family or neighborhood.
These people have a fantasy of being not just A “great man of history” but THE greatest, most important, most monumental figure to have ever lived in the whole universe. And in their head, if this technology either allows humans to make a superior species that replaces us and goes on to conquer the whole galaxy or just eradicates all the life on the only habitable planet we know of… well what a legacy, you know? There’s no bigger tombstone that says ‘I MATTERED!’
And that’s what they crave. They’re basically sick, poisoned with toxic levels of power and ego.
Literally, their pitches have amounted to, “We’re going to create massive unemployment” and “we’re going to kill everyone.” And they’re absolutely shocked that the public opinion is against them?
America had to build the (atom) bomb to “beat the Russians to it”. Then the h-bomb, then the ICBM. Every time it was “we, the good guys need this first to save the world”.
Except, even ignoring the “good guys” part, its always easier to copy and steal than build something new from scratch. In every case, America just ended up handing the tech to Russia. You dont slow down tech by inventing it first.
Yet you still get hoards of dick suckers sucking that corporate dick. We deserve whatever we get.
It is part of the grift. Anthropic and OpenAI want to go public and a huge part of their cash burn is compute expense for training new models. (In public filings they claim they are profitable … if you look at their numbers that’s only if you remove their biggest expense which is model training) At the same time they are seeing fewer gains with new frontier models. Some are also claiming the new models aren’t as good as the ones from a year ago and you are loosing your market advantage with frontier models?
What do you do if your largest expense is generating fewer gains and you want to go public? Get the government to regulate it and build a regulatory mote around your industry and freeze your advantage over your competitors while you have it. Cut that expense and go public as a profitable company!
At this point I only want to see regulations well after the AI bubble pops. Don’t take any government stakes in these AI companies as Bernie has argued for (I agree with his stances on most economic matters but he’s off base with this). Let these AI companies burn in the free market they advocate for soo much.

They also captured the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to allow them to run mini nuclear reactors without any of those pesky safety rules getting in the way.

The word prediction software can’t think and can’t reason. Maybe they should fix the bugs in their software before trying to raise money to make it bigger?
LLM’s can’t be fixed as such. The hallucinations won’t stop, because the tech is not AI. It can do a lot of things, like create secret social scores on us based on everything we do to be used secretly against us under half baked metrics and dishonest implementation of those metrics to punish the enemies of the authorities.
