Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew over Greece, Italy, France and Canada on Thursday on his way to address the UN, despite an International Criminal Court warrant for his arrest.
The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Gaza since October 2023.
Netanyahu arrived in the US for a short visit to address the UN General Assembly in New York, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said he does not have the authority to arrest the Israeli leader.
I know I’ve been posting this a lot but not only is the US not a member of the ICC, but the president is permitted to “all means necessary and appropriate” to free any covered US person or covered allied person if they are arrested. Israel is one of the countries explicitly listed as covered, and the definition of covered includes government officials.

France has said they consider heads of states that are not signatories to the treaty to have diplomatic immunity, despite the ICC having jurisdiction over Palestine (who is a signatory).I haven’t heard excuses from the other countries 🕵️♀️I was tricked by an ad into thinking I was done the article 🤦♀️. The only takeaway is that when Israel said the ICC is only for African and Arab leaders and not for Western countries and colonies, they were completely right.
The ICC and ICJ are useless Western colonialist institutions which should be dismantled ASAP. Trump is doing the rest of the world a favor by destroying the farce.
I highlight this law not to make comment on the value of the ICC, but to point out that the current admin is just joining 24 years of opposition to it.
