That’s not something new - even in 2004, the people that owned the voting machines in Ohio (Diebold) were openly talking about being committed to delivering a victory to Bush.
It’s just absolutely insane that we allow black box unexamined code to calculate votes. There’s been many suggestions on how to fix this - from open source systems disconnected from the internet to paper ballot reciepts to even blockchain, but none have been put in in the US.
