I love how internet nerds like to pretend they look more like a chad than a neckbeard
Don’t forget lil old soulseek
Whats emule btw?

a p2p network and program. Like bittorrent but with the search included in the program.
There’s also upload credits like BT, but it rewards long time users so it’s less forgiving than bt, which then new users find disappointing because they don’t reach high speeds as fast or easily (at least in the begining). This also causes a lack of new users, which will then make it hard to reach high speeds - making it a doom loop: low speeds -> no new users -> low speeds.
However it still has a dedicated community.
However it has an advantage, which is the easiness of sharing, which makes it good for find hard stuff to find.
For linux use amule (https://github.com/amule-org/amule/releases), and in windows use emule ai (https://github.com/eMuleAI/eMuleAI/releases )
Hah! I’m just learning this now. I remember on the early 2000s I once started several dozen large downloads right before going on vacation with my parents. Came back 4 weeks later and they were finally done. I thought it was because of our slow internet but it must have been because of my lack of upload credits.
probably a mix of both.
From perplexity because i’m lazy:
The core difference is that eMule uses a persistent, pairwise “credit” score that carries over across files and sessions, while BitTorrent uses a short‑term, per‑swarm “tit‑for‑tat” mechanism with no lasting credit between peers
EDIT: Also emule has a block size of 9Mib while bt has a 512kb which at the time (let’s say 2005) was too ambitious for the speeds the users had at home. The 9MiB block is now ok :-)
Subscription to Usenet.
Subscription to multiple providers and indexers. Usenet is so fucking all over the place. If someone made a universal provider+indexer, every other Usenet provider would go bankrupt overnight.
Emule?
It’s a peer to peer network, it was quite popular in the first years of 2000.
Same, no idea what it is. Lmk when you find out
ranzispa came to rescue
Both: Complains about nothing to watch.
Real chad: No VPN
Where did you get this weird take on neck beards? Stallman is the archetypal neck beard. I guarantee you he has no subscriptions to anything.
I think it fits especially with Stallman. The neck beard ideal seems to be one of supposed supremacy over others of “lesser” intelligence, right? Stallman is like part unicorn to them. But if he’s part unicorn then he’s also part goblin. This is a man who bragged that he used a dumb phone to avoid tracking/monitoring and only a dumb person would use a smart phone.
I will tell you now we captured everything SIP related when I worked in that field. RTP and RTCP. We could reconstruct the VoIP packets and play back your calls whenever we liked with minimal auditing required. Every call is timestamped and logged against telecom switch port. Even Stallman would have been subject to that. He wasn’t special, because no one was special.
HBO Max execs when they don’t make the cut but something named “TIM Vision” does

is emule still a thing…? cool 😎
Was about to say that i haven’t heard that name in… goddamn 20+ years…
amule has recently become active again, with a 3.0 release after years of not being updated.
What no i2p for Chad?
Isnt the throughput like really bad?
Yeah it still is… but its kind of a fun community so I literally download from elsewhere and then seed lol
The old ways are best
Me: Plex share because i am lazy as fuck regarding video content and need my limited storage for my game trove.
