I stayed at a place once for over a week, they had two elevators, but one of them had a sign on it saying it was out of service the entire time I was staying there. I did wonder at the time if it reverted to a “single elevator” algorithm, or if instead it just ran a kind of degraded “two elevators but one isn’t keeping up its end of the bargain” algorithm 😛

I worked at a place once that had three elevators that each went to a different set of the floors in the building. One went Basement-6, one went 1-6, and one went 1-5. And when you hit the up/down buttons from outside there was no way to specify if you needed one of the floors that wasn’t necessarily covered by all of them.
