    It still boggles my mind most of the world decided to adopt that app of all apps to be the defacto texting app.

      As one of those adopters 15 years ago, it was a no-brainer. I could either message my wife “free” or send SMSs at 20c each.

          SMS is now 11 cents, better, but not free. There are a bazillion more apps that do free messaging but everybody, even companies expect to have WhatsApp
