    I’ve just bought my very first Xbox. It’s Series X, and although I like it well enough, I’ll probably never buy another Microsoft product. My software & my games need to be on my discs, not the cloud. I’m not interested in renting or leasing games with the game pass. I’ve already started amassing a nice collection of used/older Xbox games from various sources, probably have enough to keep me busy for the next decade. So, this mantra of “You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy” isn’t going to work in my case.

      I feel the same but I buy shit on Steam all the time. Probably because I can still play my old shit on there and I don’t risk having to buy every indie game several times because it isn’t compatible with the latest console.

      Also, the pricing on console stores are ridiculous…

        At least Steam has repeatedly said that they have “measures” in place to make sure their customers can still access the game they bought if Steam had to shut down. They didn’t go into details though, so finger crossed.

      This generation was the one where I intended on buying my first Xbox as well. I wasn’t going to get it at launch but I was interested enough to be willing to put the money down. However seeing how MS have progressed so far, the increasing push to cloud gaming, game rental and more has been increasingly off putting. It’s a shame as well because around launch I was excited by how beautifully engineered the Series X is.

        I was so disappointed with my PS5 purchase. It’s an alright expensive entertainment device, but the nonsense with the exclusive games is another. I bought it because it had a disk drive, now it seems they aren’t really planning on releasing many disk games. Between that and the Bethesda shit I feel like I got played. And Xbox is no better, the only thing available was their shitty series S for like forever, plus my Xbone had its own set of hardware issues for not being that old or overused.

      No, this one is actually a leak I’m pretty sure. It has to do with Microsoft’s ongoing trial with the FTC. Someone fucked up when sending documents.

    I despise subscriptions for most things. Movies, tv, audio. The technology to play them doesn’t really change: you could listen to modern audio with 1970s technology, your cel phone, and a 25 cent cable. Similar with movies. So I pirate all that stuff.

    But video games? The hardware really is prohibitive for big titles. I want to play starfield because I loved oblivion and morrowind, but the hardware is so expensive. My pc could play it but nvidia linux drivers are a mess.

    Anyways, my point is that streaming actually makes sense for games. Plus I could play for a month, finish the game, and subscribe and play the next big title when it comes out.

    If I can stream games onto my computer or old Xbone (no reason why not) with low latency for like $15/mo, hell yeah I’ll do it.

        I’m on ps5 but the upcoming psn price hike is putting me off after reluctantly paying it the last 2 years. A steam console (I think I saw ‘leaked’ recently) sounds ok if it can play GOG/owned stuff too.
