Danish authorities have claimed two new victories in the ongoing battle against online piracy. A 46-year-old man, who allegedly uploaded content to the Danish torrent trackers “SuperBits” and “DanishBytes”, was sentenced to nine months in prison. The other defendant, a 48-year-old man, was linked to ‘The Scene’. He received a twelve-month sentence for hosting two servers and sharing pirated content in one of the most elusive piracy groups.
Interesting to see arrests still happening towards private trackers. I wonder how the Nordics fares nowadays when it comes to being the Mecca of filesharing, feels like the golden days have passed since long ago.

The article mentioned Danish language children’s programs specifically. In some countries children’s shows are partially funded by the government, which if that’s the case it’s an insult to the monarchy as well.
Uncle Sam has ways of making other jurisdictions discover they have fux to give. Bulgaria is a good example from recent years. Other countries are better at containing him on the copyright question eg Australia, Canada, Netherlands, etc
According to the article, they were under investigation for over 5 years. I wonder if they would be less willing to open new investigations given recent events.

Yes, except of course The Scene. IIRC only two of the mentioned trackers still exist today.
Surprised the authorities would go after users of a private tracker, seems like a low impact area compared to public trackers or even pirate movie streaming sites.
Says one of two things - either the guys opsec was comically sloppy and nailing him was free real estate, or getting this particular target was personal and thus the investigation got much more resources allocated than normal
It’s the same logic where the US government would film agents smashing alcohol bottles and illegal distilleries during prohibition then playing the footage at movie theaters and such. It wasn’t about efficacy,it was about sending a message/keeping up appearances and hoping that it will scare other people away from doing it.
